About the Author
Joe Toplyn began his television career on the writing staff of "Late Night with David Letterman." He went on to become co-head writer of "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" and head writer of "Late Show with David Letterman." His other writing credits include the sketch show "In Living Color," several situation comedies, and the comedic detective show "Monk." In addition to his four Emmy wins, Toplyn is honored to have received over a dozen Emmy nominations.

The Bible for Wannabe Comedy Writers

If you are like me and your life goal is to write jokes for Jimmy (Kimmel or Fallon), Conan, Steven, Samantha or Seth. Or you want to tighten up your own comedic writing to perform or publish, this book is definitely for you.
Comedy Writing for Late-Night TV goes through everything you need to know to be a better writer for the late-night format.
Everything is covered - monologues jokes, desk bits, parody sketches, location bits and more. Plus, Joe supplies a sample writing packet and information on how to go about the scary task of submitting a writing sample to a TV show.
All I've ever wanted to do is be a late-night comedy writer and growing up in Australia I had no idea where to start. Joe's book has been an enormous help and because of it I've become a better writer.

To be funny, or not to be funny? That is the question.

The title itself is excellent and has terrific information contained. However, within owning the book for a week, the pages started falling out. I don't consider that a content issue as much as bad manufacturing. With this warning, I would consider purchasing this work through a reliable source because it isn't a $5 find and you wouldn't want to treat it as such.
