About the Author

What happened here? (Spoiler alert)

Okay, I was enjoying this book, like I've enjoyed other O'Brien books, until I got to the end. Around the middle of the book, the future knight in shining armor killed Gillian's upstairs neighbor. Didn't he? I've read that section 4 times and each time it's the same. And so I waited through all kinds of action and interaction for Gillian to discover that he was a bad guy. And yet O'Brien morphs him into the hero and romantic interest, leaving you to wonder WTF just happened. Is this a mistake? Did I read it wrong?

Excellent!!!

My mother picked up "Killing Spree" at the store and gave it to me, we read a lot of books and had not heard of this author. All I can say is that I'm hooked now! I've read The Last Victim and am working on Left for Dead. Right after Killing Spree, I went and got what I could find of his at the library. Definitely a page turner, I couldn't put it down...there's always a twist that you don't see coming and you're always guessing! I've been staying up all night reading his books because I just can't put them down! I've never written a review before...I just wanted to say how much I enjoyed Killing Spree. I was sorry when I finished it.

Killing Spree is an improvement from the last O'Brien title, but only marginally. What made this outing better was the two lead characters, Gillian and Ethan, who are probably the most unlucky people on the face of the earth... The gambling husband leaves Gillian to hide from the mob and the police and now they're after not only her, but her 14 year-old son. If that isn't bad enough, Ethan is discovering he is gay and getting bullied in school, his only friend turns his back on him, and to top it off, a serial killer is recreating the murders from Gillian's published novels. Okay, a little to much thrown in, yes, but it was a lot of fun to read. Way too many red herrings and characters, too.

I'm giving Kevin an assignment for his next book; watch the film, Dead Calm. There are only 3 people in the entire movie and it's one of the most chilling, susupenseful thrillers ever made. It's all about great characters and an awesome premise. If Kevin thinks outside the box a little, his work will be outstanding once again. He just needs the story to catch up with his superior technical writing. Besides a few continuity errors and a handful of typos, I had a good time with this one. As always, I'm looking forward to his next book.

He can’t believe this is happening to him. Especially when most of the males in their tribe are willing to accept one of these puny females. Not him. He’s never rutted with one and doesn’t have any desire, whatsoever, to rut with one in the future, let alone mate and impregnate one. Claiming one of these females will not be an easy feat considering there are three other dragon tribes vying for the opportunity.
How the hell is he supposed to do all of this when he doesn’t want to come within a mile of one of these unsavory creatures?

This book can be read as a standalone but would be best enjoyed as a part of the series (Start with Chosen by the Vampire Kings). No cliffhanger!

frustrated

Ugh ... I'm a little over half-way through the book and I'm ready to reach in and punch the heroine in the throat. She's sooooo ridiculous. She harps constantly on not only getting raped, but on how his big "man parts" will tear her up. Even after she's been shown and proven that no rapes occur, even though she's been shown and proven that other human women are very happy with their dragon shifters, in and out of bed, she still insists that SHE will be raped and that the others aren't smart enough to know that they are being raped too. Apparently the other grown women are incapable of making their own decisions and Julie is the only one with a brain ... in Julie's opinion. Of course, all of this is going through her head at the same time that she's turned on by the guy and going on about how hot and sexy he is and that she should just go ahead and jump his bones.

So poor Coal has to put up with this bi-polar ditz, I couldn't feel sorrier for him! I'm really hoping the 2nd half of the book redeems itself, Julie starts taking meds and Coal finally gets off the merry-go-round!

***UPDATE***

I finished the book and unfortunately, Julie never really redeemed herself. Coal was great, I'd love a man like that in my life. He made some mistakes but he owned them and he changed and he didn't balk at doing either. He also didn't wallow in the past the way that Julie does. She lets her past color EVERYTHING about her present and her future and it gets really old fast.

It's not a bad story and the premise is quite good actually, it's just a sucky heroine.

Could Have Been Great. Failed.

This book had potential, but it tanked.
Hard.
First of all, the cheesily named dragon shifters kidnap women. They're led to fear that they will be raped, then ALL OF A SUDDEN most of the women are happily sleeping with the dragon shifters that beat the crap out of each other for the women. It moved far too fast with no explanation for anything. There should have been so much more fight in these women.
The only one with reservations was the female protagonist. Even then, she cried fear of rape until she was begging for sex.
The whole book was poorly written and the plot devices were non-existent. Plot devices were eschewed in favor of revealing most things through dialogue.

at first i really did not like Coal. his arrogant attitude grated on my nerves. i did feel bad for Scarlet until she was so mean to the other women. she should have been mad at Blaze. what happened to the other women? Coal proved himself. He turned out to be perfect for julie. julie was slightly annoying in her resistance but she finally came around. i really like Flame. Blaze is hiding something. great read.
