5 Breathtaking Stars

I have yet to read a word by Chloe Walsh that I have not fallen madly in love with. With each book her writing gets better and better. Surpassing her last published book when I didn't think it was possible. I really didn't think she could beat Treacherous. Boy was I wrong!

Blurred Lines is unlike ANYTHING I have ever read. Ever. It's hard to even form words to accurately explain my feelings. I swooned hard, loved deeply, even laughed at times. Then I shattered into a billion pieces, my soul was shredded, and my heart wept and broke and splintered. I became enraged and murderous, livid beyond reason. I gasped for air, questioned what the heck I was reading, then fell in love with each and every word as my heart was ripped from my chest. The writing and these words are so breathtakingly beautiful, they live inside you. You live and breathe them, consume and devour them. You see, this book is everything and you will FEEL everything. Chloe's writing is really indescribable when it comes to Blurred Lines. It is complicated and earth shattering and beautiful and just is. It just is and this book just needs to be read.

Blurred Lines is by far Chloe's best work to date and I cannot wait for more from her. Especially a sequel to the story of Cade and Mackenzie. I need more! This is a must read and not only a best read of 2015, but a best EVER read.

Heart-wrenching

Oh, god, this book... I do not even know how to describe it. It was heart-wrenching, heart-breaking, the emotions Chloe Walsh puts you through. Cade and Mckenzie, their love grew over a span of years then they were separated by very evil people who destroyed a young girl and killed many over time. My heart breaks for Mckenzie for being in the position she was in but my heart is also happy for her because she survived and she plans on helping herself before she can truly live again. She is not letting the whole thing break her, she is standing up to fight even if it is herself she has to fight. Oh, god, this book... Seriously! I love it!!

4 hours: the amount of time it took me to devour this book! Chloe Walsh took me on a emotional roller coaster I wasn't ready for. Blurred Lines sucked me in from the first chapter. Walsh writes a powerful and heart wrenching book, with two incredibly broken hearts fighting each other. Cade and Mackenzie were life long friends until one night changed their life, they lost each other, their innocence, and their what could have been. You will love, hate, and break for these characters. Blurred lines is a book I finished, but I won't forget one that I know I will be rereading! Watch out once you read blurred lines you will be addicted.

Safe Use of Cortisol is a Unique Medical Classic

The Safe Use of Cortisol by William McK Jefferies MD is a medical classic, and along with its companion classic by Broda Barnes, Hypothyroidism, the Unsuspected Illness, both books should be required reading by every medical student and MD and deserve a prominent place in every medical library. I have read both numerous times, and plan to re-read both again.

This book contains a condensation of clinical knowledge from the career of a medical giant, and a wealth of knowledge not found anywhere else, and is complete with references to the medical literature, case histories, laboratory studies and dosages.

In this slim volume, Safe Use of Cortisol, Dr. McK Jefferies points out an important distinction which is not widely known by mainstream doctors or the public. This is the distinction between the lower and completely safe, physiologic doses of cortisol, and the dangerous higher pharmacologic dosage levels commonly used by mainstream doctors to treat rheumatoid arthritis and other auto-immune diseases.

While the lower cortisol doses below 40 mg per day are safe, above this dosage level is increased risk of adrenal suppression, and increased risk of adverse side effects including moon face, osteoporosis with spontaneous fractures, thinning of skin with easy bruising, striae, subcutaneous hemorrhages, fluid retention with edema, and cataracts.

Cortisol is widely available as inexpensive Cortef from the corner drug store, and is the bio-identical hormone secreted by the adrenal gland. Since it is a natural hormone, it cannot be patented, explaining the lack of funding for research by the pharmaceutical companies.

Chapter 4 of the book discusses generally accepted uses of Cortisol, starting with the most logical use which is adrenal insufficiency, also called Addison's disease. However, McK Jefferies also discusses mild adrenal insufficiency, which is not usually recognized by mainstream doctors, and should be. Other uses of low dose cortisol include ovarian dysfunction with infertility, chronic fatigue, allergies and auto-immune diseases.

McK Jefferies relies on the Cortrosyn ACTH stimulation test to evaluate adrenal function, as well as urinary cortisol metabolites and serum cortisol tests. He also addresses thyroid function as part of the overall clinical picture; hence the connection with Broda Barnes and the continued advocacy of McK Jefferies' work by the Broda Barnes Institute.

I found Chapter 5, Gonadal Dysfunction and Infertility, to be the most fascinating and clinically useful chapter. McK Jefferies used low dose cortisol to successfully treat thousands of young women suffering from irregular menstrual cycles, ovarian dysfunction, hirsutism (facial hair, and acne, both signs of elevated testosterone).

Nowadays, teenagers with irregular menstrual bleeding are routinely given birth control pills with synthetic hormones to regulate their cycles. The synthetic hormones in BCPs are associated adverse side effects and do not address the underlying fertility issues.

Unknown to the mainstream medical system, the real treatment for irregular menstrual bleeding is found in this medical classic book, namely low dose cortisol and thyroid which successfully normalizes menstrual cycles and restores fertility. Dr. McK Jefferies suggests that the cause of the infertility and irregular periods in these patients is usually excess adrenal production of either androgen (PCOS) or estrogen, and the low dose cortisol serves to suppress this excess hormone production by the adrenals and allow normal ovarian function.

Now recognized as the most common genetic disorder in the population, (CYP21A2) non-classical 21-hydroxylase deficiency is associated with menstrual irregularities, hirsutism and acne from elevated testosterone. Rather than low dose cortisol, current practice is to use similar low dose dexamethasone (See the 2006 review in J Clin Endo & Metab Vol. 91, No. 11 4205-4214, by Maria I New). Perhaps non-classical 21-OH should be renamed McJefferies Syndrome to give proper credit to this great clinician.

McJefferies stresses that normalization of thyroid function is also required for menstrual regularity and fertility. Broda Barnes agrees with McK Jefferies on the importance of thyroid for normalizing menstrual cycles, and both treat with thyroid medication even though the thyroid blood tests may be completely normal. They have found the blood tests to be unreliable. This is at variance with mainstream medical practice which clings dogmatically to the thyroid blood tests. Most mainstream doctors would refuse to offer thyroid medication unless there is a documented "out of range" lab value.

Chapter 9 deals with using low dose cortisol for viral infections such as influenza. Although there was some initial concern that low dose cortisol would reduce immunity in some way, Dr. Mc Jefferies was surprised to find in clinical practice that his patients maintained on low dose cortisol typically reported fewer common colds and other viral illnesses than their family members, suggesting an enhancement of immunity. Another practice he used was to increase the cortisol dosage when patients felt a common cold or viral influenza coming on. He found that this enabled the patient to ward off or recover from the illness more quickly. Of course, he also points out that excess doses of cortisol would have the opposite effect and impair resistance to infection.

The final chapters of the book discuss the use of low dose physiologic cortisol for rheumatoid arthritis, allergies, auto-immune disease, chronic fatigue.

In addition to the ACTH stimulation tests still in use today, we now have the newer, salivary cortisol testing which I am sure Mc Jefferies would have found useful in his day. What he would have written about the use of salivary cortisol testing ? Unfortunately we will never know. Perhaps a future medical author will build on McK Jefferies work and incorporate salivary testing and other new developments in a future book.

I reviewed the third edition which was published in 2004. The first edition was published in 1983. Other books recommended along side this one are, Adrenal Fatigue by James Wilson, Hypothyroidism, the Unsuspected Illness by Broda Barnes, From Fatigued to Fantastic: by Jacob Teitelbaum, Your Thyroid and How to Keep it Healthy by Barry Durrant Peatfield.

One of a Kind

This exceptionally unique book is written by a medical doctor with a page long impressive credentials and fifty years of experience studying "the safe uses of cortisol", the most important hormone in human body and " the only hormone that is absolutely essential for life", in treating different illnesses. The book starts telling the story of the initial success of treating patients with R. Arthritis with cortisol and how and why the by cortisol use has fallen from grace after the medical community discovering the devastating side effects of cortisol use in large doses. According to the book, at the time, the optimal levels of this hormone or how patients should take it were not known. Instead of giving patients, whose bodies' would normally make 35-40 mg cortisol daily if they had fully functioning adrenal glands, the optimal amount of cortisol of 2.5 mg-10 four times a day, patients were given hundreds of mgs of cortisol daily resulting in terribly side effects giving the steroid treatment the bad reputation it has today. The book also covers safe use of cortisol in treatment of gonadal dysfunction/infertility , R. Arthritis, allergies, autoimmune disorders, such as lupus, hyperthyroidism with diffuse goiter, chronic thyroiditis, diabetes mellitus, regional enteritis and ulcerative colitis and multiple sclerosis (they are listed in the chapter headed "Other Autoimmune Disorders), viral infections including common cold, influenza, infectious mononucleosis and shingles. Also the author reports that "it is a known fact that the influenza virus attacks the human body by impairing the production of ACTH which in turn, impairs the production of cortisol." There is another part in the book mentioning his suspicion about hypertension is also being related to adrenal dysfunction.

Each chapter of the book has relevant case studies of patients which are reported in a scientific research format and the book is very technical at times. Although the thirty percent of this book went over my head, I was able to get the one hundred percent of the message.

In my opinion this is an excellent book to read for someone suffering from chronic illness. You may also benefit from reading the part I and the part III of Dr. Pamela Smith's book, "Women's Hormones" (The part I lists the names and the function of the chemical messengers called hormones in human body and symptoms/treatment of the deficiencies) and watching Dr. Frank Shallenberger's free educational video, "Healing Chronic Disease. How to Keep Your Adrenals and Thyroid Happy." Unfortunately, mainstream medicine and doctors are not informed about this subject at all. That's why what was really helpful for me was to go to the American Academy of Anti-Aging and Metabolic Medicine website(4a) and find a doctor who finished a two year fellowship. By the way, if you can't tolerate cortef (bio-identical cortisol), isocort (bio-identical plant based cortisol) or licorice as a cortisol replacement (I had severe side effects with every one of them), one of the most commonly used herbs in TCM(Traditional Chinese Medicine), schisandra or schizandra, works just like cortisol without the side effects, yet it has steroid like qualities.

Yoga for the Material Girl and Material for the Spirit

I love Lucy’s first book, Yoga School Dropout, and recommend it to all my Foundation course students (on account of her humourous and accurate summary of the main schools of Yoga on offer in India). Down Dog Billionaire is a slightly different beast and just as compulsively readable – though it may help if you are female. This attractively-packaged book is pure chick-lit with Yoga and the book is no less engaging than the cover.

The book works on several levels. On the surface, it’s `You’ve Got Mail’ for Generation Yoga – with competing yoga studios in place of bookshops. Lucy (like the great travel writer Eric Newby) used to work in advertising and multiple meanings fall thick and fast. There is no time for eating chocolate (even if it’s organic and sugar-free) as one follows the threads of ideas that all Yoga teachers will have entertained to a starry parade of conclusions. There is a generous learning-curve at play: Lucy is trying to sell nothing but the fact that health is wealth.

She follows through, too. As she explains at the back of the book, the publication of Yoga School Dropout brought a flood of requests for recommendations for good yoga classes. In response to this, Lucy has set up YogaClicks, with its 'site-within-a-site' YogaMeds: for students and teachers of Yoga and Yoga Therapy respectively. The latter comes complete with all the up-to-date research and evidence of why and how certain Yoga practices work for different conditions. Teachers can register, students can find the appropriate teacher. Brilliant.

What characterizes Lucy’s writing – and what sets her apart from other creators of chick-lit - is her deft sense of humour, her forgiveness of human foibles, the sheer joy with which she scoops up our Kleshas, uploads them into a divine channel of a narrative and transcends all our base expectations. Truly worth reading.

Arianna Moore is one half part of the female rock duo The Daughters of Darkness, the other half consist of her best friend Jayde Kimberland. The two met within the foster care system, Arianna and her twin sister Ashleigh were abandoned as babies, Jayde's parents were killed in a car crash when she was two. Lucky for the three of them they ended up in a really great home with an amazing loving mother figure. They stayed until they aged out the system and found an apartment together.
Arianna suffered a tragedy in her life that would forever change her life completely, she has built walls around her heart and she keeps herself guarded. Her only saving grace has been her music.

While the duo are performing at The Underground a local bar in there hometown, the two are offered an opportunity of a lifetime to tour as an opening act for the big name rock band, From Yesterday. Let me mention the lead singer is Bryden Rowe, none other than the same man Arianna had an encounter with in the ladies room. Arianna did not know who he was at first, she discovers his true identity from Jayde when she catches them together in the ladies room.

"I told you that wasn't the last night you would see me."

Bryden Rowe has a reputation in the music industry as a bad boy, only those close to him know the real Bryden, his band mates Cash and Riley. He's been burned in the past and grew up in a broken home, like Arianna music was there for him. I loved Bryden he's not your typical rock star ass.

When the tour begins Arianna finds herself falling for the bad boy Bryden, she knows deep down she shouldn't but something about him draws her to him. Bryden himself also seems drawn to Arianna he knows all about her walls, he wants to break them down one by one, he knows her heart is shattered into a million pieces and wants to be the one to piece it back together.

"If I had a choice I would never give up on her. She is the air I need to breathe and the only person who has made me feel alive."

Will Arianna let Bryden into her heart? Will she revert back to her old ways and destroy not only her dreams but Jayde's in the process?

Can Arianna help heal Bryden's heart? Will two broken souls find solace in one another?

Not only is this book beautifully written and told, there are secondary character's you will fall in love with and want more of.
I loved the story of Arianna and Bryden, an I look forward to Jayde's because let me tell you with that little preview we are given in the back of this book, I can assure you it's gong to be a bumpy ride.

What a great book! I was so emotionally drawn into this book. I read a lot of books and the way it was written just drew you in. You could feel what the characters felt. Just got the second book Jayde and can't wait to start it!

I loved this book and this is not my usual genre. I can not wait to start reading the next one. Arianna is part of the rock duo The Daughters of Darkness and she hasn’t had a easy life. She grew up in the foster system and her life hasn’t gotten any easier the older she has gotten. One night while The Daughters of Darkness are playing at a club she meets Bryden, he is absolutely gorgeous and she wants him as badly as he wants her. After the show her manger comes to them with the offer of going on tour and opening for From Yesterday, a major rock group and she can hardly contain her excitement, until she walks in to meet them and sees Bryden sitting there. Turns out Bryden is the lead singer for From Yesterday and she can’t help but wonder if The Daughters of Darkness got this opportunity because of their talent or because Bryden wants a bed-buddy for the tour. She is determined that she will not fall for him, that he is just another rock star playboy and she refuses to be just another notch on his belt. Bryden loves how sassy Arianna is and how she’s not afraid to speak her mind. He wants to be with her but can he show her he is not the man whore that everybody thinks he is and that he only wants to be with her? Can he break through the walls that she has built around her heart?

A wonderful tool for parents and children navigating through an often hostile corporate driven culture

Linn makes a compelling case for the importance of imaginative play in the lives of children, and beyond. She clearly demonstrates the ways in which supporting children's imaginative play benefits society as a whole. Despite the tremendous importance of play, at both the individual and communal level, American society often not only fails to support imaginative play, but actively seeks to undermine it for the sake of corporate profit.

Dr. Linn is a co-founder of the Campaign for a Commercial Free Childhood, and Professor of Psychiatry at Harvard University Medical. She has also worked extensively with children in the capacity of a play therapist. Dr. Linn is clearly an expert in her field and does a wonderful job of laying out the reasons why play is an "essential building block for a meaningful life" (page 10). Yet despite its vital importance to child development, imaginative play is eroding in our present day society, as children spend significantly less time engaging in creative play then they have in past years. For Linn, the answer lies in our profit driven corporate culture, which undermines the importance of creative play in favor of more profitable character based and directive styles of play.

Linn's book however, is one of hope and encouragement. She provides us (the overstressed parent) with suggestions for how to parent with intention and nurture creativity. She provides her reader with bulleted lists, tips and suggestions to help spark creative play. For Linn, the solution seems to be a more intentional type of parent, we "have to know who we are and what we value" (page 199).

What I enjoyed most about Linn's writing was that she did ot write a book strictly for academics and professionals, rather this book is for us, the parents. Rather than blaming, or criticizing parents for the decline of creative play amongst our children, Linn puts the blame on corporate profiteers. She empowers parents and educators to look within and trust themselves for the answers. Linn's book is engaging and thought provoking. It should be required reading for any parent who wants to parent with intention, as a tool to navigate through an overwhelming, dis-empowering, corporate culture. Perhaps the greatest motivation for nurturing creative play in our children is that it allows them to differentiate between their own internal motivation and the external stimulus of media messages. By fostering creative play, we are equipping our children with the tools that they themselves will need to maneuver the commercialized world in which they are

Not what I expected...

This book is well written and thought provoking. However, a lot of it is devoted to the author's experience with play therapy and therefore most of it doesn't really help parents figure out how to support play with their own, mentally healthy kids. I also noticed that there were quite a few paragraphs lifted directly from her previous work, so if you've read Consuming Kids, you already have a good chunk of this book read. In my opinion, it was the parts that came from Consuming Kids that were the most insightful and helpful, and not the new material offered in this book. It's still worth a read.

About the Author
Erle Stanley Gardner (1889-1970) is the master of American mystery fiction. A civil rights lawyer, his mysteries contain intricate, ever-twisting plots. Challenging and full of surprises, these are whodunits in the best tradition. He wrote 146 books, 85 of which feature Perry Mason. The fictional attorney became the basis of a number of television series (reputedly 271 episodes), and achieved an enviable record for winning his cases. Erle Stanley Gardner has an amazing sales record: at the height of his popularity in the mid-1960s he was selling an average of 26,000 copies of his novels a day, making him one of the world's best selling author's, easily outstripping at the time Agatha Christie and Barbara Cartland combined. Born in Malden, Massachusetts, Gardner went on to attend Law School in Indiana, but this only lasted for around a month, being suspended because of various distractions to his studies, especially boxing. He moved to California and became a self-taught attorney before opening his own law office. However, being bored with this he ended up working in sales for five years. Returning to the law in 1921, he created another law firm, but again was not really enthusiastic, other than when acting as a trial lawyer. Writing was his great passion and eventually he gave up the law completely to pursue a full time writing career. In this he was prodigious, setting himself a target of 66,000 words per week. His output under various pseudonyms, as well as his own, went wider than Perry Mason and also extended to non-fiction. He became an expert on the early Mexican exploitation of California. In later life, law did play a significant part in his life once again. With friends, he set up what they termed 'The Court of Last Resort', aimed at investigating and attempting to reverse what they perceived as miscarriages of justice because of poor legal representation, or evidential problems. Gardner himself once wrote: 'I want to make my hero a fighter, not by having him be ruthless to women and underlings, but by creating a character who, with infinite patience jockeys his enemies into a position where he can deliver one good knockout punch.'

Very well-plotted mystery. Every small details were combined to the truth. Trial scenes took larger part in this novel and I like trial scenes. Highly recommended.

About the Author
Ken Kaser taught business and marketing courses in Nebraska and Texas high schools for 30 years. He currently serves as the Director for the Event Management and Sales Certificate program at Conrad Hilton College at the University of Houston. Ken has authored or co-authored seven books; written national, state, and local curriculum; served in many professional leadership roles; and earned numerous teaching awards at the national, state, and regional levels.

Dotty Boen Oelkers is a sports and entertainment author, educator, and enthusiast. Discovering, interviewing, and writing about the interesting people who market sports and entertainment is her passion. Dotty has written three books, co-authored one other, and contributed to numerous other books. She began her career in retail management, is a former Marketing Education teacher, Career and Technical Education (CTE) Director, and has served as a consultant regarding CTE Administration in school districts across Texas.

Hard to write this review because this is a textbook and most of the checkbox items do not apply. Was really glad to get the updated version of this book. Will save me a lot of time for my SEM class. (Have been using the 2005 version of this book and looking up all the stats myself)

Deceptive Outlaw ( Sinister Sons Syndicate Complete series ) - Dawn White ( 4 Stars )

Rebecca is an ATF Agent sent on a Dangerous mission to infiltrate an outlaw biker gang dealing in weapons and human trafficking , but once she's undercover she falls hard for the President of the Sinister Son MC .....Gavin!!
Can Rebecca keep her job and new found Feelings hidden in order to complete her mission safely or will their new found passion send them both into a battlefield neither will walk out of unscathed? ?

I enjoyed the fact that this was an MC book , but it was really about Rebecca an ATF agent falling for the president of a biker gang. It was interesting and I was very into the different missions she was going to be thrown into next.
I liked Gavin and Rebecca together , but was looking more for a rough biker and his girl kind of relationship .
To me Gavin sort of came into the start of their relationship knowing she would be his old lady already and didn't even know who she was . He really didn't talk to her like a bad boy biker , he was a little out of place when he was showing his feeling or having a conversation with Rebecca.

I'm all for a man crying ( Love for them to show their feelings) But Gavin Cried way to much for the leader of a Motorcycle Gang !!

This book was all about Rebecca a Strong Woman who fights to keep others safe in the line of duty no matter how many Battle Scars she comes out wearing . She does it because if she can save one person or family from the terrible loss she once had to endure , then it was all worth the pain.
I hope there will be another book about Rebecca and Gavin's Relationship , because the ending just seemed so unresolved !!

The best part of this book by far was the Scorching hot love scenes and the Gory , sometimes cringe worthy and violent kidnapping and gang war scenes.
I loved the action packed , sometimes bloodied , gory scenes within this story ..The fingernails being pulled back was on point !

I will definitely Read & Recommend books by Dawn White to my friends and cannot wait to read Sinister Outlaw which is about Gavin before he meets His Rebecca.

Unforgettable.

This is Agent Rebecca Quinn's first solo assignment as an ATF Agent... She is to infiltrate Sinister Sons Syndicate motorcycle club in the hopes of finding if someone in the club, or the club itself is part of a huge sex trafficking ring of under age girls that are used for prostitution and as drug mules.... Thanks to their CI, Lucas and the agreed on cover story, the getting in is the easy part.... Gavin, the MC President, ( older brother to Lucas) sets his sights on Rebecca from the start.... They become close and soon he is falling for her.(just as planned) The only thing is, she is falling for him too..... I really had no idea how this was gonna play out from one chapter to the next. There is so much going on.... Is she going to lose her heart to the one she's been lying to from the start? Will Gavin understand and forgive her?... With bullets flying, turf wars, kidnapping, explostions, torture, revenge and murder.... nerves, tempers and emotions are in constant flux... Do Gavin and Rebecca stand any kind of chance? Is death just waiting in the wings to eventually claim one or both of them?

that was pretty cool. So why would I give this book ...

I received this book to give an honest review. Contains spoilers at the end.

Now I didn't know this had both Deceptive Outlaw and Sinister Outlaw within it. Even though it says complete set series, that was pretty cool. So why would I give this book a three rating? Well I have sat on this review all day trying to gather my thoughts up on this. Now I have read a MC book before so I am not too familiar with all the works on how the MC should go but there were some things that bothered me with this book. Now I believe the author did a great job with building the character Rebecca up, I really loved how the author transformed her from ATF to biker chick with just a flick of clothing in a way.
Rebecca is an ATF agent who is going undercover to stop a biker gang what she doesn't expect is to fall for the president of this gang. We see as a relationship happens between the two and the dangers that Rebecca finds herself in not only once but on multiple occasions. The ending has you wondering who has it out for Rebecca and will she find out who it is before she finds herself hurt again.
The way this book ended has me wanting to read the next book as I want to know the answers Rebecca wants and needs. I need to know where the relationship between herself and Gavin is going to go.
So why I gave it three stars.......the story felt rushed, some of the scenes felt unrealistic to me, and Gavin just didn't click for me as a biker dude.

So just so you know the below sentences are spoilers I have given you a warning so do not read any further if you want to be spoiler free.

The issues I had.
1. The story feeling rushed. We meet Rebecca we learn of her assignment she meets with Gavin and not even a full day later she is sleeping with him. He uses a condom with a side chick but not with Rebecca. When she gets hurt she is always rushing into another assignment.
2. There is hardly any dialogue between Gavin and Rebecca no getting to know each other it is always " I love you." "I love you darlin." What ever happened to getting to know one another I understand keeping some things quiet as one is in law enforcement and the other is into illegal activities.
3. Who was the pledge who was one of the people behind the sex trafficking? I felt he was just a character pulled out of somewhere and then never mentioned again.
4. When you lose six months of your life how is the news just going to report it when you magically turn on the tv.
5. When you lose six months of your life how do you go back to work after being out of the hospital so quickly without a time frame?
6. During this time where in the hell was Gavin at? Did you not wonder where he was?
7. Why did Agent Mia have to see a shrink but Rebecca didn't? I would have thought Rebecca would have had to see someone to help her get through everything she has been going through.
8. How close is Rebecca to the other ladies in the club? The reason I ask is it seems she knows one of them well enough that they can just text her with good news like Rebecca didn't seem to have any type of relationship with them or so I thought.
